The Sang Lab is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry to join our team. The successful candidate will conduct research on dietary and disease biomarkers using both targeted and untargeted metabolomic approaches.This position is based at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will serve as an integral member of the Sang Lab (https://sites.google.com/view/sang-lab-ncat/research). 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Investigating the metabolism of dietary compounds using in vitro systems, animal models, and human studies
  • Applying metabolomic approaches to identify and validate dietary biomarkers
  • Exploring interactions between dietary compounds and the gut microbiome
  • Publishing research findings and presenting at scientific conferences
  • Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instruments.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Ph.D. in nutrition, food science, natural products chemistry, analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or a closely related field 

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience with mass spectrometry platforms, including LC-MS and GC-MS, as well as chemical derivatization techniques
  • Extensive experience operating and maintaining mass spectrometry instrumentation and associated data analysis software (especially Thermo Scientific platforms)
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative metabolite analysis, including trace-level detection of biomolecules in vivo
  • Strong background in mass spectrometry–based metabolomics
  • Knowledge of natural product chemistry
  • Understanding of interactions between the gut microbiome and dietary compounds
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a strong record of scientific writing and publication
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, self-motivation, and initiative
  • Strong project management, time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
