We are thrilled to introduce Melissa Henckel as Editor for the American Society of Pharmacognosy Newsletter. Melissa, who holds a BS in neuroscience from Purdue University and an MS in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Louisville, is currently a research assistant in Dr. Amy Keller’s laboratory at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. As the new Newsletter Editor, Melissa brings a wealth of expertise, having previously served as copy editor for the Ball State Daily News and spent five years running her own photojournalism business. Before assuming her role at UC, Melissa spent time doing field research in anthropology and traditional medicine in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Botswana, and South Africa. When asked what she loves about her work, Melissa says, “It’s amazing to think about how things we knew about long ago are still so relevant today.” As our new Newsletter Editor, Melissa is excited to give the ASP membership a platform to vocalize their ideas and thoughts and communicate the excellent work they are doing both within the ASP and with the broader community. Melissa already plays an active role in leadership in our society. She serves as Co-Chair of the Social Me-dia Committee (with Maggie Hill) and as Webmaster for the ASP, where she is spearheading a major initiative to rebuild and revamp our website, a project she is carrying out with great passion, enthusiasm, and generosity.As Newsletter Editor, Melissa succeeds Dr. Edward (Ed) Kennelly, who held the position for 20 years. We are very appreciative of Ed’s tremendous past contributions and of Melissa’s willingness to bring her creativity and expertise to this new role.
